Anyone grabbing some Lincolns $$ @ Noon?

What are my fellow GIM numismitists' opinions on the future collectibility of the soon to be released Lincoln Silver Dollars?

Will they be worth as much as those Silver Buffalo dollars from 2001? Old Abe has been in the news alot lately, what with the Obama connection and the 100th anniversary of the Lincoln cent.

What say you?

I don't know. With a mintage of 500,000 and a price of $31, there are so many other limited silver coins with lower prices and lower mintage numbers.

Re: Anyone grabbing some Lincolns $$ @ Noon?

Unless I read it wrong, that's 500,000 split between the Proof and Uncirculated, so about a quarter million each. That's not too bad. Hell, if the Mint were not so slow and restrictive, I bet they could easily sell a quarter million UHR St. Gaudens this year.

Does anyone know the total mintage of Buffalo silver dollars? From what I read, they were sold-out in the first day, so could not have been too great a quantity.

I think the coin is a good idea but I am dissapointed it does not contain a full ounce of silver.

That way the US Mint makes up for the GRAND give-away from the US Congress.

I think they could have put this on the reverse to go with the theme of Lincoln. It would sell better.
Wait for the penny set!

They're limiting it to 100 units per household - too bad for all of you who wanted more than 100 of these babies.

Somebody out there probably thinks it's a good idea. Not me, though. I bought 1 PR and 1 BU for "prosperity".

Anybody know what the packaging is going to be like?

NO interest in Lincoln

The popularity of the UHR and the silver buffalo just shows that the public loves reprints of historical coins. Having a 30 word essay on the back of a coin probably isn't going to make it a best seller.

I refuse to buy into the propaganda campaign that is attempting to compare Lincoln to Obummer so that he may appear to be some great leader. No thanks.

I don't know what Obama has to do with anything. Today is the 200th anniversary of Lincoln's birth. The Lincoln cent was released in 1909 to commemorate his 100th BD. While I don't know why we've continued the same cent design for 100 years, it is fitting that we honor Lincoln again in 2009 - both with the commemorative dollar and the circulating cent program - after which, I'd love to see us get a new cent design (though, please, please, please, NOT an Obama cent - his image should be reserved for stickered-up fake "collectors" items only!)

No, Not a fan of Lincoln or Obama for that matter

I bought one each of the proof and the uncirculated. I figure if everybody finds them as repugnant as most of the posters on this thread, they may be a very low mintage item and consequently worth something.

That's an understatement. Now, if they had a coin portraying Lincoln as a mass murderer, tyrant and war criminal, I'd have to think about it.

It appears that Lincoln got shot before he accomplished some of the things he really wanted to do. I'm sure he is rolling around in his grave right now being compared to Obama.

Seems pretty prdictable. I wonder if I should sell the ones I got and then buy 'em back in a couple of years for half-price.

I bought two of each (Uncirc, Proof) from the Mint, when they 1st hit... I figured I'd add to my modern Commem collection...

They seem ok... Packaging is same as usual for Commems...
